About

Overtoon is a platform for practitioners working with sound in the shape of installations or sculptures and supports the production of and research into sound-based practices, as well as their dissemination. Being founded in 2005 by Aernoudt Jacobs & Christoph De Boeck, Overtoon’s sound advocacy work primarily occurs in the form of residencies where we offer residents and collaborators infrastructural and administrative support, technical and critical consulting, financial support, and access to a broad international network.

There are two types of residencies:

1. Research residencies:
A research residency provides an artist with the opportunity to focus on their project, while engaging with Overtoon and the community in Brussels.
This kind of residency is usually 2–3 weeks long.

2. Production residencies
A production residency provides an artist with the opportunity to create a new installation or the possibility to work on an already existing piece where Overtoon takes full financial responsibility on the production and distribution of the installation towards national and international partners. We collaborate closely with artists throughout every phase of production, distribution, and presentation. Production residencies can vary from 4 weeks up to 8 weeks.

Overtoon is supported by the government of Flanders, the Flemish Community Commission in Brussels, and Creative Europe:
